Fri, 2 January 2009 When we think of Christmas, some of us think of snow covered fields. Others imagine trees lit by multicolored strands. Others think of shepherds and angels. For others, maybe images of babies in mangers come to mind. The Gospel according to John begins in a very peculiar way. Gone are the shepherds and manger scene. There is no mention of genealogies. No Mary. No Joseph. Only this perplexing statement: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." This Christmas we began a new series called The Arrival, Elements and began to discover why Jesus came into our world. Pastor Nate spoke of the "four squares" of the Foursquare denomination—namely that Jesus of Nazareth, as the Messiah of God, came to be our Healer, Savior, Baptizer & King. This week we'll look at what it means for Jesus to be our King and how he chose to do so, not as a mighty warrior, but as a vulnerable lamb who would go on to "take away the sins of the world." n e w l i f e foursquare church Comments[0] |
